This module introduces the foundations of the European Union, including how it works, its sources of law and power, and the roles of the Single Market and Customs Union. Building on these basics, it examines key contemporary issues such as Brexit, enlargement, trade deals, the euro, and the Ukrainecrisis, while also exploring questions about the future of the EU. The module further looks at immigration and the future of Schengen, the evolution of EU economic integration, and recent regulatory developments such as GDPR and the Digital Services Act.
The module investigates the relation between economic growth and innovation and technology management. Analyzes market and technology dynamics to determine the importance of innovation as a key component of the strategy to develop the competitiveness of the firm in a global environment. Investigates and evaluates various funding models available for use in funding of innovation for start-ups and corporate ventures and for promoting innovation in organizations, clusters and regions. Observes systematic approaches to innovation by visiting the Accelerated Solutions Environment (ASE), a strategic tool of the global consultancy CapGemini. The visit to the ASE, which provides an open work environment to foster creativity and innovation while gaining alignment and mitigating risks, exemplifies the use of logical criteria to assess the potential for, and success of, an innovation.
During this course you will receive a fundamental knowledge of the discipline of project management and some practical tools to allow a practical application of this knowledge to a wide array of projects. While the fundamentals of project management taught in this course can be applied to any industry, most of the examples,cases and assignments are based on the Information Technology sector. The field of Project Management is a formal discipline and has grown rapidly in importance in organizations worldwide. Project managers are expected to be able to develop strategies and coordinate carefully designed action plans. They must deliver projects on time and within budget, often incorporating complex, dynamic, and changing requirements. There is also a growing need for project management to meet or exceed stakeholder expectations in relation to project outcomes. Expert project managers use proven best practice techniques and strategies to achieve outstanding results. You will explore the fundamental concepts of project management developed by the Project Management Institute(PMI® ) and included in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK©).
During a two-week pre-residency component, students will be exposed to the fundamentals of project management and the organizational contexts associated with project management. Students will explore areas of leadership, virtual teams, and orient themselves in a virtual environment. During the 5-day virtual residency, learners will be introduced to the key knowledge areas of project management, examine project leadership as well as corollary topics such as business requirements. All sessions (lectures and workshops) use or reference the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK ® Guide) seventh edition as a foundation of knowledge. Once new knowledge and skills are established, learners are given an opportunity to integrate this with their current knowledge base through class exercises and the program’s case study. Students will also be asked to integrate and apply their acquired knowledge and skills to a major case study that runs throughout the entire first residency. The last three days of the program (a face-to-face, on campus “capstone”) will have learners applying their new synthesized knowledge and skills in a competitive simulation that integrates all subsequent learning from the duration of the certificate. During the simulation learners will have the opportunity to act as the project manager, as team members, and be responsible for both team and project performance – this exercise also provides a comprehensive demonstration of student learning.
This course provides an introduction to the project management life cycle and the importance of effective portfolio management within organizations. It focuses on managing project constraints while fostering innovation, using proven tools and techniques for scheduling, controlling, estimating, forecasting, and reporting project costs. Learners will also interpret earned-value data and explore the critical role of teamwork in project success. In addition to developing core project management and analytical skills, the course strengthens virtual communication abilities through discussions, presentations, and written assignments.
This module introduces MBA students to the quantitative tools and statistical techniques that underpin decision-making in business and finance. It provides a foundation in mathematics, probability, statistics, and regression, with emphasis on applications in financial management, risk analysis, and business strategy. Students will use Excel and other software to analyze data, run simulations, and apply theoretical concepts to practical problems.
This course focuses on fundamental corporate finance concepts and how they relate to financial management in a business context. Students will develop a deeper understanding of applied financial concepts as they examine the extension of theory into practice. This Module incorporates the global financial environment, international markets, cross-border financing decisions, and multinational corporate operations.
This course covers two main topics in finance: financial derivatives and risk management. The course provides an overview of the derivatives markets. It covers arbitrage, hedging, speculating, and other trading strategies. The course also teaches students how to price forward contracts, call and put options using discrete time and continuous time models for options. In particular, the course covers binomial option pricing model and Black-Scholes option pricing model. In addition to financial derivatives, the course also provides a comprehensive treatment of the theoretical concepts and modeling techniques of modern risk management. The course covers methods for market, credit, and operational risk modeling. Although, the course draws on methods and techniques from financial economics and statistics, the focus is mainly practical. The objective is to equip students with relevant techniques to measure and manage risk in practice.
This course is an introduction to finance theory. Students are expected to bring the background of an introductory course in statistics, linear algebra, and optimization. The course covers in depth the fundamental equilibrium models of price formation in finance, namely, Markowitz’s mean-variance portfolio theory, capital asset pricing model, arbitrage pricing theory, and factor models. Other topics include models of bond prices, yields, and managing portfolio bonds. In addition to mastering the theoretical foundations, the course adopts a hands-on practical approach that matches the theory with practical applications that are routinely performed in the finance profession. In particular, students will learn how the portfolio management process (PMP) is performed in practice. In addition to using real data on financial assets, students will also learn how to analyze financial statements, perform fundamental and technical analysis, and how to construct financial portfolios.
This module empowers students with programming skills essential for data-driven decision-making. Grounded in Data Science & Big Data Analytics (Wiley), the course covers the full analytics lifecycle—data ingestion, exploration, processing, modeling, visualization, and presentation—using tools like Python, R, SQL, and open-source libraries.
MNEL 505: Data and Database Systems introduces the design and operation of database systems for managing organizational data. The course begins with the relational data model and SQL, enabling students to design relational schemas and retrieve information from databases. Students then examine database design principles, including normalization and functional dependency identification, to develop efficient and reliable data structures. The course also explores how database systems process and optimize queries and how indexing and storage structures influence database performance. The latter part of the course focuses on transaction processing and concurrency control, which ensure data consistency when multiple users interact with the database simultaneously. Students also examine distributed database architectures and emerging data technologies used in modern data environments. Through practical assignments, students apply these concepts by designing relational schemas, developing SQL queries, analyzing database performance, and evaluating database systems used in organizational settings.
Organizations are increasingly expected to consider ethical obligations, social responsibilities, and organizational values as guides to which digital opportunities to pursue and how to pursue them. Emerging technologies, and AI in particular, challenge not only the governance of technologies themselves but also require new policies. Leaders and their Boards need to be ready to ensure that their organizations have a governance structure adapted to an environment where all parties have equal opportunities. This course is designed to explore the ethical and governance challenges arising from the rapid integration of digital technologies in various sectors of society. It looks into the ethical considerations, legal frameworks, and governance strategies essential for navigating the complex landscape of digital transformation. Students will gain a deep understanding of the ethical implications of emerging technologies, the importance of responsible data management, and the strategies to ensure ethical decision-making in the digital age. This course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the intersection of digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), and the critical considerations surrounding ethics and governance. Students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the evolving landscape of technology-driven change responsibly.
This course integrates the outcomes of the MBA program through a student-led, problem-based exercise based on a 'live' client organization. Mentored by consulting professionals and faculty, students will be asked to synthesize and apply 'strategic' concepts from prior courses and to acquire new knowledge to solve live, complex, and often ill-defined problems posed by an executive leader from the client organization. Students are expected to apply the knowledge and demonstrate the strategic senior management competencies acquired throughout the MBA program. This Advanced Strategic Integrative Practice course is intended to present the student with a capstone experience that will conclude their Masters of Business Administration program. Students will adopt roles as members of simulated consulting teams who will be presented with complex, ill-defined but fairly representative types of problems and issues that they are likely to face as mid- and 'C'-level executives. The principles of problem-based learning will be observed. Specifically, close collaboration between team members and between teams and mentors will be required. Learning under the mentorship of coaching professionals (PBL) and subject matter experts (SMEs) will be substantially self-directed. The educational experience during the two weeks will emphasize not just the analysis and reflection on the problem (the knowing), but also the implementation (the doing). This will be accomplished in part through the presentation by each team of a comprehensive report containing their findings to their client and a senior business-level panel. Formative evaluation throughout the exercise will emphasize diagnostic feedback from multiple sources (including peers and mentors). Finally, an individual assignment will provide students the opportunity to acquire in-depth understanding by providing their own personal insights on the client organization's prospects for success.

By the end of this mini-course, you will be able to explain the concept of academic integrity, identify different types of academic dishonesty, and understand Royal Roads University's policies on academic misconduct. You'll learn to differentiate between acceptable use of sources and plagiarism, recognize the importance of proper documentation, and identify strategies for incorporating others' ideas into your work. The course also covers the elements of a complete reference, introduces citation management tools like Zotero or Mendeley, and encourages you to seek help from the Library and the Writing Centre when needed. this course is designed to give you the knowledge you need to succeed in your program while upholding the standards of academic integrity.

Drawing on Pay-Per-Click Search Engine Marketing: An Hour a Day, the module emphasizes Google Ads, campaign structure, keyword research, ad creation, optimization, budgeting, tracking, and reporting. Students gain hands-on experience through live projects, case studies, and simulations.
This course explores how organizations can leverage social platforms to build brands, engage customers, and drive business growth. Drawing on Zarrella’s The Social Media Marketing Book, it blends theory and practice across key platforms (blogs, Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, wikis, and forums). Students will design social campaigns, evaluate metrics, and understand the ethical, cultural, and strategic implications of digital communities.
This course introduces students to communication in the digital landscape. It distinguishes between digital and traditional/analog media and how a strong strategic communication must include elements of both to be effective. It helps students identify the advantages, shortcomings and risks of digital communication and the significance of evaluating and reporting the impact of digital communication. The teaching format includes case studies, online video discussions for collaborative learning, in class exercises, and a real-world digital communication campaign plan.
